I guess the folk who created it do!

Perhaps the question you wanted to ask is the following:

"Would someone please describe what protocols are used by the ISPF WSA?"

Well, I have lived a sheltered life so I'm not familiar with the WSA - but I do
know a thing or two about searching for information in the z/OS online library.

Starting here

z/OS V1R13.0 elements and features bookshelves

http://www-03.ibm.com/systems/z/os/zos/bkserv/zshelves13.html

under

All z/OS V1R13.0 Base Elements, Optional Features - 672 books

I entered "ISPF Workstation Agent" (without quotes) in "Search text".

There were in effect 3 hits since both V1R11 and V1R13 manual were presented.

In Interactive System Productivity Facility (ISPF) User's Guide Volume I, I
quickly discovered that Appendices A and B covered the topic and in Appendix B
the relevant protocols - plural! - were exposed as follows:

- TCP/IP

- APPC (APPC/MVS)

The former covers TCP as "transport" over IP as "network". I only discovered
for sure that the "transport" was TCP - rather than UDP - because there is
discussion of the "keepalive" function.

The latter implies SNA supporting LU type 6.2.

QED!
