John, The answer to your second question below is no - the VALIDATE might put out a warning message that you have a construct that is not referenced in the DATACLAS, but that is not considered an error. The first question is confusing to me. Are you asking if a failure to assign a DATACLAS will prevent SMS from executing the STORCLAS or MGMTCLAS routines? If so, the answer is no - assigning a DATACLAS is optional.
