Did I hear the other day that there is a Connect:Direct "clone" out there
somewhere?

(No disagreement with the answer below. C:D uses a proprietary protocol that
has its roots in SNA.)

ConnDir as in CONNECT:Direct? A/K/A: C:D, NDM, etc.?

If that is correct, then no. There are specific communications protocols
observed by C:D and FTP does not comply with them.
