I don't know the language at all but FORMAC sounds to me like a 6-letter
(hello, FORTRAN!) portmanteau of FORTRAN and MACRO.

My recollection is that FORMAC was in the 1960s and was FORTRAN based, but
memory is the 2nd thing to go. I can't remember the 1st.
