I don't think you can connect a physical library to a z, it has to go thru a VTS type device. That said, there are vendor products that will allow you to emulate a VTS and send the data to an S3 device. As far as then sending it to physical tape, I believe that can be done. I'm not pushing one way or the other, but we looked at AMI cloud from BMC - I had planned on doing a POC of it but got 0 help from the S3 storage guys and ended up upgrading our TS7700 from a 7760 to a 7770, and simultaneously upgrading our TS3500 to a 4500.

The TS7700 is also connected to Physical Tape drive TS4500. Our tape management system is Broadcom CA1. If we want to stop using the TS7700 and send our tape data to an S3 private cloud solution, but still want to replicate the data to Physical tape as well, what are the options ? Can we connect the S3 to Physical tape drive or we have to connect the Z16 directly? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- For IBM-MAIN subscribe / signoff / archive access instructions, send email to [email protected] with the message: INFO IBM-MAIN ---------------------------------------------------------------------- For IBM-MAIN subscribe / signoff / archive access instructions, send email to [email protected] with the message: INFO IBM-MAIN
