Many years ago I was at a university that used VAXes for programming classes.
The computer room was often busy, with a waiting list to get a terminal.

But I had a hack: I knew that there was a hidden lab on another floor, that had
a terminal connected to a PDP-11 running some version of Unix. That lab was
usually empty.

So what I'd do is go to the lab, unplug the terminal from the PDP-11, and
connect it to a serial line that ran to the VAX upstairs. My own private
terminal room!

When I was done I'd connect the terminal back to the PDP-11.

Then one day I overheard one of the Unix guys, trying to figure out who kept
crashing the Unix server, by unplugging its console.

And that was the last time I did that trick.
