Often the examples in PDF’s are easier to copy (no retype).
Sometines they work.
Well, I remember the "excellent" examples.
UNIT=3350  I have never seen 3350 working
DSN=SINGLE yes, single qual
etc.

Even if it's uncatalogued, no SMS or RACF problem?

Perhaps manuals should distinguish examples from schemata,
as by using different typefaces,
or:
//N`AME  DD UNIT=3350 ,DSN=&SYMBOL
or:
//N`AME  DD UNIT=3350 ,...

Must such an example contain SPACE, DISP, an EXEC statement,
a JOB statement, ...? What is it intended to illustrate?

But nor:
//N`AME  DD UINT=3350 ,...

Well, I dare to disagree.
Examples or other things should NOT show waaaaay obsolete things (HW and SW) and should not show not recommended practices. Despite of main topic to be illustrated.

BTW: I remember when I have found some error message. Explanation mentioned possible problems with OS CVOL. I'm old fart, but really too young to work with CVOLs. What's more important - I wanted to know what the CVOL is - but no documentation explained it. No even simple "it is obsolete thing".
Same for MSS.

BTW2: single qualifier dataset names can be found on the slides for ES07 JCL course. I use to teach it and I always pay student's attention: "Look at that. Use red marker, because it simply wrong. Don't try to use single level names".
