I was more thinking of a local application, with a local data base. But I
will totally agree with you if you're assuming even a local LAN
application, much less an Internet based solution. Part of the reason being
that, even on the distributed side, we try to minimize cost by buying a
machine that is "just barely good enough" to get the work done. And
management goes on "averages" not on "peak demand" measurements. Just like
building maintenance. The west side of the building is too warm, the east
side (where the vents are) is too cold. But "on average" (thermometer in
center) the temperature is "just right".
