This is exactly the same change your network people will have to make to 
support mail from every other system they have. Exchange, Unix boxes, etc all 
have to do this. 

Using DNS is a part of the use of electronic mail in today's world - similar 
checks are in the standard configuration for sendmail, exim , Exchange, etc and 
you're asking IBM to make everyone implement an exception to best practices and 
a documented RFC for convenience sake. It'll be harder to convince your network 
people to allow this than to do it right in the first place.
