Other than doing backups, I would also do a SMP/e BUILDMCS.
Here is an example:

SET BDY(FROMDLB)             /* DLIB zone where HMP1E00 is installed */.
BUILDMCS                     /* Build the MCS and JCLIN              */
FORFMID(HMP1E00)             /* for the FMID HMP1E00                 */.

Should you want to re-instate the old software:
RECEIVE, APPLY, and ACCEPT the output in the SMPPUNCH data set
that was generated by the BUILDMCS command.
