In fact, given the availability of 64-bit addressing, the 2 GB difference between 31-bit and 32-bit is just a blip. It's like attaching a garden shed to the Empire State Building. It's hard to imagine IBM seeing a compelling reason to do this instead of concentrating on exploiting 64-bit.
