No, not according to how I read the book. Only the data sets on the volume that you specify in the IPLPARM can use ******. Any other volume containing non-VSAM system data sets would be considered an *extension* of the sysres volume and would need to have the symbol(s) &SYSRn. (n>1) defined and would need to be catalogued to volume &SYSRn.
