Those are two different things. Making exits available that obviate the need for local modifications and making parameters available that obviate the need for exits are desired even by those who hate OCO, and do not imply taking away the exits or the source code. -- Shmuel (Seymour J.) I was referring to the OP's "Is there a ... free alternative emulator ...?" Frankly I don't think I have seen any resistance to OCO in twenty years, other than on this list. Many, many customers nowadays would not know what to do with a piece of assembler source if you gave it to them. Customers are pressing to have exits go away. In other words, they *want* local customization to be parameters plus object code, not source code. My preference is for well maintained software to which I can easily make local changes. If I have to pay a reasonable license fee and can only provide my changes to people who are licensed, that's fine.
