FICON and Fibre Channel (FC) are different things.  FICON cannot attach to 
SUN Storage because FICON is for CTC and control units with FICON 
adapters.  (I don't think your SUN box has FICON.)  You cannot connect 
FICON to a Brocade 3850, because the 3850 is FC only.  FICON is only in 
the Brocade 12000, 24000 and 3900.  At least, that's what I get from 
Brocade's web site.

For point-to-point connections, the other end must have FICON (not FC!) 
adapters.  Even when you go through a switch, it is FICON from the 
mainframe to the switch, and FICON again from the switch to the device. 
The device must have a FICON adapter.
