Indeed, as Kris mentions, our requirement to have an 8-character Load Par m is to control whether the SAPL screen is displayed or not.
All works OK now, after deleting all characters in the field and then entering the 8-character string. It seems that there are blanks padding t he field and with the keyboard in insert mode the blanks were preventing mor e characters being typed. BTW Kris, as a newby to z/VM, I like some of the Xedit macros etc that yo u have written on the IBM Download Packages site. Nice! Thanks to all for your help. Fred
