I think I may have had the same problem on my pair of IBM 3590 B11 drives when we first installed them about 2 years ago.
1. The tape drive needs to be fixed. 2. You have trashed some very expensive tapes. We finally had to send the tapes back for warrenty replacement. But once IBM fixed the tape drive, it has been running fine ever since. Tom Duerbusch THD Consulting >>> [EMAIL PROTECTED] 8/28/2006 1:20 PM >>> I have 4 standalone 3590 drives (addresses 1800-1803). A specific tape cartridge (VM0124) works fine in drive 1803, but in drive 1802 I get: q v 182 TAPE 0182 ON DEV 1802 3590 R/W SUBCHANNEL = 0016 Ready; T=0.01/0.01 11:40:25 rew 182 Rewind complete Ready; T=0.01/0.01 11:40:41 tape query (182 DMSP2C217I Device TAP2 can write the 3590 Compacted recording format (3590C) DMSP2C217I Device TAP2 can write the 3590 Basic recording format (3590B) Ready; T=0.01/0.01 11:40:50 tape dvol1 (182 VOL1VM0124 Ready; T=0.01/0.01 11:40:57 tape wtm 2 (182 DMSTIO2139I VDEV 182 SENSE gives ERA/RAC= D0; cartridge may not be valid for I/O DMSP2C111S Error writing TAP2(182) Ready(00100); T=0.01/0.01 11:41:22 According to the Messages manual the "D0" code means "Cartidge format incompatible for write". I've tried using the "3590C" and "3590B" parameters to force the recording mode, but get the same results. Any data I write to the tape on a different drive (such as a vol1 label) I can read when it's mounted in 1802 (as shown above), I just can't write to it on 1802. Other outwardly identical tape cartridges work fine in drive 1802. I get similar results using VMFPLC2.
