great ideas one and all. The clients are presented with a ussmsg10 selection screen with a choice of about 8 or so VTAM apps; 1 goes to z/VM the others out to SNA land. So the MSG10 screen will have to be presentned to the users when SCEXIT DIALs VTAM.

Ah. Now that's a horse of a different color. This is the old-style "TN3270 offload" functionality favored for many years by z/OS shops due to the uncertain changes in CPU and memory consumption engendered by the change from LU2 to TN3270. Most have moved past it now.

2) the Cisco router then connects the TN3270 cleint to a VTAM Netview
Access Services application (NVAS) [The magic incantation "VTAM LST" was
also heard at this point of the discussions....:-)]

VTAMLST = The filetype of VTAM configuration files.

I'll take a look now at the exit DB mentioned and see if I can't figure
it
out. There are no plans to bring in Linux on zSeries (for EE) or to
replace
the 3745 box......just the two Cisco routers.

Since the users are using TN3270, not SNA LU2, then the users can telnet directly into the VM system instead of to the Cisco box. No EE required and no effect on SNA connectivity. As DB said, yes, you can use SCEXIT to DIAL VTAM and bring up the [primitive] USSMSG10 selection screen or, if you leave NVAS in place, then the default APPL on the LOCAL devices (that are DIALed into) can be set to NVAS.
