CMS doesn't care as long as the disk is 32K or less. If the disk is greater than 32,767 cylinders you will get an error message on the ACCESS command.

This reminds me of when CMS7 would not allow minidisks on a 3390-9 even if the minidisk was 3338 cylinders or less; it was upset about the device type and ignored the number of cylinders. Does CMS22 act the same way or does it not care as long as the minidisk is less than 32K cylinders?

Well....looks like I've been busted! There are a couple of caveats.
Yes, CP supports it, but here are a few restrictions :
- CMS can only access a disk of 32,767 cylinders or less
- A (virtual) minidisk that is greater than 32,767 cylinders is not eligible for minidisk cache regardless of what is marked in the directory or conf file.
- A real disk track will not be brought into the minidisk cache if it exists above real cylinder 32,767 with recent APAR VM64115.

For the original question: Yes, VM 5.2.0 (as well as 5.1.0) supports a 3390 mod-54 DASD.
