Apart from that, it used to be viewed bad practice to have job
postings on the mailing list. The idea was that employers don't
provide Internet access to have employees look for new positions.
Obviously Internet access is common enough so that argument may be
gone. But I can imagine some folks just don't feel happy with their
company inbasket holding unsolicited job postings.

Velocity Software have been hosting jobs wanted / available postings
to overcome this. When you visit http://www.velocitysoftware.com/jobs/
it is at least a deliberate act. That page also has the e-mail address
to post on the listing.
