Hi Rich, When you disconnect the z/VM 5.3 OPERATOR you get the z/VM 5.3 HCPBOX, and then you close the TN3270 emulator, right? That is your problem. Don't forget that you are logged on to a virtual machine on the first level CP (z/VM 5.2), and THAT virtual machine is running and OS which happens to be z/VM 5.3.
If you want to disconnect the virtual machine in which you are running z/VM 5.3 - after you disconnect the OPERATOR and receive the z/VM 5.3 HCPBOX, press PA1 and break to first level CP (verify that you are on first level CP, look at the status area in the bottom right of your TN3270 session) and THERE you type DISC to disconnect. Now the TN3270 session can be closed without yanking a virtual machine's console in the process. :) -Mike -----Original Message----- From: The IBM z/VM Operating System [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Rich Smrcina Sent: Wednesday, August 01, 2007 10:22 PM To: IBMVM@LISTSERV.UARK.EDU Subject: PROFILE EXEC to bring up second level VM OK, I seem to be having a recall problem... Here is the essence of a PROFILE EXEC that I'm using to bring up z/VM 5.3 under z/VM 5.2: 'CP SET RUN ON' 'CP TERMINAL HOLD OFF' IPLCMD='TERM CONMODE 3270'||'15'X||'IPL C20' 'CP 'IPLCMD It all works fine until I DISC the z/VM 5.3 OPERATOR and close the session. Then z/VM 5.3 stops. When I log back in to the virtual machine it is all good, it picks up right where it left off. What's missing from the PROFILE EXEC to keep it running when the console goes away? -- Rich Smrcina VM Assist, Inc.
