Phillip,

Take a look at the directory entry for the virtual machine that is not
getting its console traffic sent to OPERATOR, and compare it to the
directory entries of one or more of those that work as desired.

On particular, look at the CONSOLE statement in the directory entry.
The ones that are working probably look something like:
CONSOLE 009 3215 C OPERATOR
whereas the failing one probably looks something like:
CONSOLE 009 3215 C
Note the missing "OPERATOR". That positional keyword is the name of the
Secondary Console Image Facility (may have the acronym wrong) userid to
whom all line-mode console traffic is to be routed if the userid itself is
logged on "disconnected".

CP commands "SET SECUSER" and "SET OBSERVER" can also be used dynamically
to change or just observe line-mode console traffic on one disconnected
virtual machine from another authorized machine. But I'm betting that
your case is the directory entry situation. You can add "OPERATOR" to the
directory entry of the missing svm, and the next time it is logged on,
OPERATOR will see the line-mode console traffic. The SPOOLed console
traffic will remain unchanged and go wherever the console is SPOOLed when
it is closed.

Subject
console output to OPERATOR

we have a number of stand alone machines that use DDR to backup
critical VM packs.
they run disconnected and the console output shows up on OPERATOR.
except for one of them - which is the problem.

what causes the console output (from SAY commands in the EXEC)
to get routed over to OPERATOR ?

i thought the profile exec 'CP SPOOL CONS START TO MAINT' was controlling
it,
but after reading about the SPOOL command, that just controls where the
output
winds up.

how can i make the SAY command output show up on OPERATOR?
the operators need some feed back that the backup is working and
notification that the backup is complete.
