Judson,

Just an FYI - we just finished a DR test on a z10 EC, and the remote
person flipped a coin and defined the LPARs as zVM partitions for the
three 5.2 LPARS tested. It does work for 5.2, but you should use the
ESA/390 option as others have advised. We found that some older
unsupported software did not work (a CMS14 version would not IPL).

Subject: LPAR Types on z10

We are getting a z10 BC. We are creating the group icons for the HMC. In
creating the image profiles, there is a pull down box to specify the
operating mode of the LPAR. We have two VM systems (both V5.2) on the
older z890. The one partition runs all of our CMS work and some z/OS
guests. The other is for all of our Linux on zSeries activities. On the
z890, the CMS partition is defined as an ESA/390 partition while the
Linux workload is in a zLinux partition. On the z10, there is now the
option for a z/VM partition. Can either of these systems run as a z/VM
partition or should their LPAR operating modes remain the same as is now
on the z890?
