"operation exception" means you tried to execute an invalid opcode. It's been a long time since I've done any CMS programming. Do you get some sort of report which shows the PSW? If so, what is the PSW, and what is the data around where it is pointing? Any chance your code is doing a "wild branch"? In z/OS, we get these when some base register is set to 0. This is usually when a statically linked subroutine is not resolved in the link.
