I don't have a document reference for you, but I can give you my basic procedures.
Create a CLASS G user with the same number of dedicated DASD volumes as y ou used to install your first level system. If you have been able to relabel your floor system to not use the 610RES, 610W01, etc volumes then you can use those labels for these dedicated VOLUMES. Attach a tape drive, load the installation tape and practice a VM install , rsu application, etc. Apply all your local modifications. Test, test, test again. Here is where you can change and test ALMOST anything. User code, IBM ptfs, new products. When z/VM 6.2 comes out, create a new user with new DASD labeled 620RES, etc and start again. Each release starts clean, user modifications get remove d or cleaned with each review and you get to know exactly what is on and wh ere it is. Extra benefit: If something does happen to your floor system, this is an immediate RESCUE system. IPL it, attach your floor system, fix it, IPL th e repaired floor system. /Tom Kern /U.S. Department of Energy /301-903-2211 (Office) /301-905-6427 (Mobile) On Fri, 12 Feb 2010 07:52:26 -0600, McDonough, George <george.mcdono...@mmc.com> wrote: >Hello, Everyone. > >We recently installed a z/VM environment (version 5.4) for a Linux proof >of concept.
