Meeting Agenda:

9:00 AM Eliminating the Barriers: Bringing z/VM Administration to the 21st Century

The skills needed to administer a z/VM system are typically acquired over a period of many years. Bringing new people in to the fold can be challenging when all they think about when they hear 'mainframe' is green screen. Experienced admins from other platforms might be turned away by having to learn yet another set of commands and a terminal interface. Other virtualization platforms compete for mind share via sexy GUIs.

This presentation will slide-show/demo (depending upon network availability) a project that provides cloud enablement for z/VM and will allow the administration of a z/VM system from a web browser.

The speaker will be Rich Smrcina of Velocity Software.

10:30 AM Coffee Break

11:00 AM Managing Linux on z/VM

Managing Linux on the mainframe requires capacity planning, performance analysis, chargeback and operational support. This presentation discusses technologies that can be used to accomplish it all effectively.

The speaker will be Rich Smrcina of Velocity Software.

12:30 PM Lunch Break

1:45 PM Administration and Vendor Announcements

2:00 PM Linux on z Update

The speaker will present a brief update of recent developments in the Linux under z/VM area.

The speaker will be Paul Augustyniak of the IBM Corporation.

2:30 PM SUSE Linux Enterprise 11 SP1 - Ready to Roll Out

Find out just what is cooking in the upcoming release of SLES 11 SP1. We'll spend some focused time on what is new, updated, and supported. Of course, the special emphasis will be on System z.

The speaker will be Don Vosburg of Novell, Inc.

3:30 PM Coffee Break and Prize Drawing

3:45 PM Run your ASP.NET applications on System z: A Closer look at how Mono on SUSE Linux Enterprise 11 can free you to fly

We will look at the architecture of running Mono - the Linux implementation of .NET. Then we will discuss some real-life situations where you might consider deploying these application servers on SLES 11 for System z, and hear about what others have done.

The speaker will be Don Vosburg of Novell, Inc.

4:45 PM Free-for-All

Members will attempt to answer any reasonable VM or hardware related questions. If you are having a problem and want to find out if others are experiencing it, or you are installing new hardware or software and want to find out what types of problems others have experienced, here is the place to find out.

Members are encouraged to bring ideas for future presentations and speakers to this meeting.
