I guess that's why the Icelandic "show style" riding never seemed "exotic" to me, as some people seem to find it. It's been mostly men that I've seen in Icelandic competition (well over 50% anyway), zooming around with no particular signs of finesse, emphasis all on speed. This video shows the redneck image that "speed rackers" have in the South. Now, I'll admit, the "feet on the dash" isn't as prevalent in Icelandic showing as it was 5 years ago, but we still see way too many "loin sitters", which effectively does the same thing, especially when it's a good-sized man on a pony. To me, a macho redneck is a macho redneck...whether he's wearing riding breeches and tall boots, or Wranglers and a Budweiser t-shirt...
