My neighbor down the way has a farm pond like this one
and she has the sides and bottom drudged out every 10
years or so to get the sludge and cattails out. It
looks horrible, like a new pond at first, but then she
has years of good use before the leaves, mud, and
water grasses start taking over again. Maybe you could
do a mini-version of that?
