I just returned from the yacht club, which is a gutted shell. Two firetrucks
were still there and firemen were putting out the last of the embers. A
WABC-TV camera crew was taping a report when I was leaving.

Our boats are fine but the grand old structure is completely destroyed and
will have to be razed. I spoke with some board members and others, who were
present, and while they were understandably devastated by what had happened,
they
were also determined to rebuild. They will probably bring in a couple of
trailers and port-o-potties this spring as they go about planning for the
future.
The Board of Governors is meeting this evening and I'm confident that their
love of the club and determination to rebuild will result in an even better
physical plant in the future. In the meantime, I extended the best wishes of
the
Fordham Sailing Team and offered our assistance in whatever way possible.

Joe
