Regatta Highlights:
Saturday brought very unstable conditions. We started races in a 10mph
breeze from the south which escalated to a 45mph cold front from the
west which then died to a 0-8mph zephyr from the north. The skies were
mostly cloudy, and there was a slight drizzle during the cold front. 11
races were completed in each division with 1 protest that was disallowed
and 1 breakdown that was given. With sunlight fading we could only sail
till 6pm! 1 protest filed, 1 protest heard.
Sunday on the other hand was perfect. Clear sunny skies, temperatures in
the 70s and a 4-12mph breeze from the north. 9 races in each division
were completed in strong ebbing and flooding tides. Modified trapezoids
were sailed with a total of 15 general recalls throughout the day. No
protests and no breakdowns were heard and the competitors were out the
door by 4pm with a full rotation of 20 races completed. Hamilton and
Syracuse didn't sign their RP forms and will be penalized accordingly.
A heartfelt THANK YOU goes out to the KP Dinghy Team that volunteered
for this regatta. They did a fine job adjusting the course,
communicating, and most of all executing on every aspect of the
management side of the regatta from scoring to breakdown. Thank you!
Thank you also goes out to Jerry Rockhill and Jim Ryan for serving as
our judges on Saturday, and Jerry on Sunday although no protests were
heard. As well as the USMMA SAILING CENTER STAFF that provided us with
finely tuned powerboats and race equipment!
