ICSA,
My Name is Travis Wright and I am the President of the University of
Florida Sailing Team. Last year our team developed a new java based
scoring program that would be more intuitive to use than the Navy
Scoring program used currently. We asked for everyone in ICSA to help
us test it out and let us know what needed to be improved. Thanks to a
lot of emails and teams willing to test out our program at actual
regattas we got a lot of feedback that was very helpful.
We have reached the end of our testing and believe the UF Scoring
Program is ready for use by any teams wanting an alternative to the DOS
based Navy Scoring Program. There is a short but very useful help file
included with the program. Please read this help file because it
explains a lot of what our program can do to make score entry and
printing much easier. Also when you enter scores all special scoring
has the same 3 letter code as the current Navy Program, such as BKD and
DSQ.
We have posted the UF Scoring Program on our website at www.ufsail.com
<http://www.ufsail.com/> . It is available free of charge to any team
wishing to use it.
Previously with the UF Scoring Program the main problem has been when
people send the final scores to the mailing lists. The problem occurred
when you highlight the tables of scores in the Program and paste them
into an email. When the email goes through the list-serves it takes out
the formatting of the tables and creates the multi-page emails. To
solve this we have added a new tab that displays the results in just
text like a notepad file. This text can be directly copied and pasted
into emails. This excerpt from the help file explains how to email the
regatta results.
Summary
The summary displays the results of the regatta in table form for
printing and distributing at the regatta.
If you want an HTML version of this table then go to the file menu and
then choose 'save summary'. This feature will create an HTML file. This
HTML file can be opened by any internet browser on ANY computer and
additionally can easily be put on a webpage. All you have to do now is
to attach the HTML file to an email and mail it to your list-serves.
If you wish to paste information into an email rather than attaching a
file, use the text summary tab. Information from this tab is compatible
with most mailing lists and can be directly copied and pasted into an
email. (Use Ctrl-C to copy).
We recommend the HTML version of the results because that allows for
the results to be very easily put up on a website. If you send just a
text version then it is more difficult to put up the regatta results. I
have pasted a sample output from a regatta last year at the bottom of
this email. I copied this information directly from the text tab in the
program and pasted it below.
If you have any comments or questions about the program please email
[EMAIL PROTECTED] or you can email me directly at

Thank You,
Travis Wright
