Prospective Intrepid Team Coaches,

For teams considering participating in this event next April, I am in need
of some feedback on event format and logistics.

As we have the past 2 years, we currently have 12 slots allocated for 2008.
However, even under the best of circumstances, there isn't nearly enough
time to complete sufficient races for a single round robin and then run a
championship elimination ladder. Reducing to 10 teams would fit better but
still would likely not allow us to complete a full championship elimination
without perfect conditions, no breakdowns and long hours on the water.. In
the interest of growing the event as well as IC Keelboat Match Racing, this
would be a step in the wrong direction.

So, we are considering a couple of alternatives including seeding the
entries and running a ladder-type elimination as well as simply breaking the
fleet into two divisions, one for teams with more experience and a second
for less experienced. This would allow a full round robin format for the
top 6 experienced teams and allow for a full elimination series.

Each of these however will require input from and discussions among
participating schools. Rather than wait until March to do this, I am
throwing it out to you now and hope to get some consensus on what will be
best.

First, please reply as to your intentions regarding entering. Second, if
you intend to enter, indicate on a 1-5 scale (1 little, 5 lots) the
experience level of your prospective team in crewed keelboat racing with
spinnakers as well as match racing. Last, please provide your input on what
else we might consider to make this a great regatta!

Thanks for your help and I look forward to hearing back at your earliest
convenience.

Happy New Year!

Jahn
