What a difference a day makes. Sunday in Annapolis dawned clear and cold
for the 12 teams contending for The Intrepid Trophy with shifty northerly
winds of 5-15 knots.

4 first round flights were completed with the two top scoring teams from
each flight advancing to a final round robin. Navy and Michigan State
advanced from Group A while Mass Maritime and St. Mary's advanced from Group
B.

After a single round robin final, Navy, Michigan State and Mass Maritime
finished in what was determined to be an unbreakable three-way tie for first
place at 2-1 with St. Mary's at 0-3 as time for further racing had expired.

It was obvious that every team competing climbed the match race learning
curve throughout the weekend as the final round featured tight racing with
numerous place changes, penalty inducements and a near photo finish in the
last match as Mass Maritime nipped Navy by a quarter length to create the
tie situation.

This event would not have been possible without the incredible efforts of
the 20 umpires who supported both the Capt. Prosser Team Race Regatta as
well as the Intrepid Trophy Match Race event. Including: Angelo Buscemi,
Jeff Borland, Sandy Grosvenor, Hugh Elliott, Dan Trammell, Jim Walsh, Mike
Jones, Maureen Mills, Sharon Hadsel, Dick Morin, Dave Pyron, Don Becker,
Betsy Altman, Jim Capron, Wayne Bretsch, Ian Berman, Ken Ward, Pete Levisic
and a few others whose names escape me at the moment.
