FINAL RESULTS
REGATTA HIGHLIGHTS
Inaugurated in 1948 as the Greater New York Area Dinghy Championship, this
event was won by Columbia University, whose name will appear on the winner's
plaque for the first time since 1959. Congratulations to the Lions!
Also for the first time, the regatta was open to MAISA teams outside the
Greater New York Metropolitan Area and the Red Raiders of Colgate were welcomed
to
the competition.
Racing took place in Long Island Sound and Eastchester bay off Morris Yacht &
Beach Club on City Island. Sailors experienced a beautiful, sunny day with a
steady northerly of 6-10 knots and slightly higher gusts, which died down and
in timely fashion during the lunch break switched to the Southeast at 6-10
knots. Competition started promptly and continued to 5:30 PM when with 20 races
completed, the regatta was concluded.
Sailors were treated to a breakfast of OJ & bagels and cream cheese from H&H
Bakery on Second Avenue in Manhattan; a lunch of Italian bread and New England
clam chowder from The Shrimp Box on City Island, and a pre-supper snack of
the "World's Creamiest Cheesecake" from S&S Bakery on West 238th Street in the
Bronx following the racing.
Special thanks go to Morris Yacht & Beach Club member Paul Laddomada, who
lent his 21' boat to serve as Race Committee boat for the day; Fordham Sailing
Team Co-Founder Lou Piccoli '52 and Major Justin Platt USA, who helped run the
races, and to Devin Schleidt '11, who did a terrific job operating the safety
boat, YARD SAIL, and relocating the marks in a timely fashion when required.
Unfortunately, five of the eight teams did not sign the RP Form so two sets
of results follow, the actual results and then the revised results, which
include the 20-point division penalty.
