The weekend served up ideal conditions both days for our Spring Keelboat Regatta held at the US Naval Academy aboard our Colgate 26s.
Ten teams competed and 10 races were completed. The first few races Saturday were run in a dying northerly before shifting around to a shifty southerly sea breeze. In all a total of 7 races were completed Saturday with the crews from Hobart William Smith and Cornell dominating the top 2 spots all day. The remaining teams bounced all over the scoreboard in the tricky conditions. After a short postponement Sunday morning, the breeze filled in from the east and the final three races were completed. HWS took an I flag in race 1 for their worst score of the regatta (3rd) and finished with 16 points. Cornell maintained their consistent form to take 2nd while the freshman crew from Navy came on strong to capture 3rd overall. Special thanks to PRO LT Joe McGettigan, volunteer Frieda Wildey and their team of Midshipmen who ran the races and also to Joan and Dick Morin and their BBQ crew for the tasty post-race burgers and dogs following Saturday's racing. Final Results: 1. HWS 1,1,2,2,1,2,1,3,2,1 16 pts. 2. Cornell 2,2,1,1,2,1,6,2,3,4 24 pts. 3. Navy 7,4,3,6,7,4,4,3,1,2 41 pts. 4. RPI 5,6,4,8,6,3,5,4,4,5 50 pts. 5.
