Antonia Schuman
* MIT * September 12-13, 2009 * Conference Regatta * Boat: FJ The inaugural Antonia Schuman regatta was hosted at MIT using both MIT and Harvard fleets of FJs. 16 Races per division were sailed in a NE, 7-10 knots with rain on Sat. The balance of races to complete a double round robin were held in NW-SW-N squirrely breeze of 4-9 knots. Courses were modified W/L with an offset and a gate. Many thanks to judge Jeff Dusek for being on the water and hearing one protest which resulted in a DSQ, and thanks to Fran Charles with assistance from Patrick Barrigan for running 48 races on the Rivah Chuck. Antonia Schuman, MIT '58, was the first woman to win a varsity letter at MIT. Toni is current President of the MIT Alumni Association. Congrats to the Tufts Jumbos who got hot when they needed to, brought it on in the final races to eek out a one point win.
