The MCSA Coed Championship was held at Baseline Lake in Dexter,
Michigan on April 16. Ten teams participated in the regatta. Although
the forecast was for rain and lots of wind, the day started with
overcast skies and moderate wind out of the south. Racing started at
10:05. in shifty, challenging conditions. Racing continued without any
delays for most of the day. The course was gradually moved as the wind
went to the right. In the middle of the day the air lightened a bit,
but by the end it was up to the mid-teens, with puffs over 20. 20
races were needed to complete a round robin, and with high winds
forecasted for Sunday, the decision was made to finish on Saturday, if
possible. Racing continued efficiently, with very short wait times
between races and during rotations. Racing concluded around 5:30, and
awards were held afterwards. There were no breakdowns or protests.
Wisconsin finished first, Michigan second, and Northwestern third. The
next three teams, Minnesota, Marquette and Ohio State all qualified
for semi-finals as well. Good luck to all teams who will be competing
in the next round. Thank you to the judges and race committee who made
this regatta a success, and to the members of the Michigan Sailing
Team who helped out. We had a great time hosting, and we will see you
soon.
