Larchmont, NY (June 11-12, 2011): The first leg of the Heineken V15 Tristate
Championship was sailed June 11-12 at Larchmont YC in the Spring Regatta.
The team with the best combined score in 2 of the 3 events wins a year's
supply of Heineken, and there are free Heineken kegs at each event, which
has captured the imagination of the largely twentysomething-aged dinghy
fleet. 30 boats made the trip to Larchmont, and were greeted on Saturday
with a building easterly of 20-25 with gusts to 28, whipping up 5-foot waves
that caused difficulty in setting a good dinghy course. Conditions failed to
improve to allow for a race, which was quickly forgotten at the post-race
party. Sunday's conditions were a mild 4-7 knots from the east with no
leftover chop, allowing for 8 races.

A number of different teams rounded the windward mark in the top 3 over the
course of the day but two teams separated themselves from the pack
consistently by the finish, with past vs. present SUNY Maritime coaches
Danny Pletsch and Russ O'Reilly doing battle with their all-star crews Marla
Menninger and Joel Labuzetta. Pletsch/Menninger took the first and last
races of the series, with O'Reilly/Labuzetta winning the majority of races
2-7 to take the title by three points, gaining an early lead in the Heineken
Championship. Steve Streit/Leigh Fogwell finished third. Complete results

Cedar Point and Sayville are both great venues, with Cedar Point hosting the
2003 Nationals and the 2009 New Englands, and Sayville hosting the 2009
Nationals. A limited number of charter boats are available on a first come,
first serve basis, same with housing/camping options.
