Job Description The Stanford University Department of Athletics, Physical Education and Recreation is currently accepting applications for the position of Assistant Sailing Coach.
Job summary: The Assistant Sailing Coach will help the Head Coach in development and organization of the Stanford sailing program. The Assistant will work on a daily basis with the student athletes to promote skill development, mental toughness and fair play. The coach will also be expected to be a team leader and help the student athletes develop their leadership skills. This job is a 12 month position with significant time off to compete in his or her own sailing especially in the summer and winter months. This position will be expected to help organize and setup the summer camp but is not expected to teach it. Summary of essential job functions The Assistant Sailing Coach will be expected to: · Help in planning, running, and coaching all team practices · Edit Video and prepare for team meetings · Travel to regattas on the weekends · Help with boat and facility maintenance · Organizing and Teaching PE sailing classes · Helping to organize community outreach programs for the team · Work with Media relations to help with press releases and update Twitter and Facebook · Create a biannual “Layline” Newsletter with the team · Work with Head Coach on donor and Alumni relations · Promote and abide by the Racing Rules of Sailing and the Rules of the ICSA · Follow University rules and guidelines Minimum requirements: A minimum of a Bachelors degree and at least 4 years of College Sailing experience. Prior College Coaching experience is preferred but not required. Abilities required: Be in appropriate physical condition to compete with the team on a daily basis. Be able to lift 50Lbs. This position is responsible for the integrity of Stanford’s intercollegiate athletics program and for the reputation of Stanford University. This position is responsible for insuring that his/her involvement with Athletic Department activities maintains the integrity of the University’s reputation and does not negatively impact the relationship between the University and its faculty, staff, students and alumni. Additionally, this position must comply with University policies and procedures, ICSA and PCCSC rules and regulations. QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelors degree preferred and/or a minimum of 4 years of experience in College Sailing. Good customer service skills. Demonstrated ability to complete tasks under deadline. Demonstrated ability to set priorities in order to perform a high volume of detailed work with constant interruptions. Flexibility and willingness to work as a team player. Strong working knowledge of MS Office, Excel and Word, PC proficient.
