It was a beautiful day for sailing on the Salt Pond today. The breeze
started out due west, which made for an easy reach out to the race area near
Gardner Island, in the southern half of the pond. Racing and running races
in that westerly was pretty difficult, with big wind shifts, but by
mid-morning a steady southwesterly filled in and some great, close racing
ensued.

We ran double-lapped windward leewards with offsets and gates. Races
averaged 20 minutes. The wind was mostly southwest ranging from 5 to 10
knots. We had no breakdowns, and heard one protest and one request for
redress. Both were disallowed.

Many thanks to our volunteers: Firstly, Meredith Nordhem (St Mary's '08)
judged on the water with Jeremy Henry (URI '11). They also heard the protest
and request for redress. Ben Quatromoni (URI '10) was the PRO and Carolyn
Chaikin (URI '10) kept him straight on the RC Boat.

Thanks also to the URI undergrads: Doug Young (Beachmaster/Breakdowns), Zach
O'Brien and Sam Morely (Markset), George Sagaal (Scoring), Chanel Miller and
Dani Fougere (RPs and Lunch-getters).

More sunny skies and wind is forecasted for tomorrow, so we hope to make the
most of it. Report time is 9:30, but we hope to hit the water soon after
that.
