Nine teams are on hand at the US Naval Academy to contest the 2011 McMillan
Cup aboard Navy's fleet of MK2 44' sloops. The crews were greeted with cool
temps and a promising northwesterly breeze in which they were able to
practice before racing got underway at noon.

PRO Keith Jacobs and his RC team got a course set up in the Bay Ridge cove
between Thomas and Tolly Points. The breeze dropped to near marginal
conditions but after a brief postponement, Jacobs persevered and got race 1
started. There were a number of place changes and end arounds during the
race and at the end Mass Maritime emerged from the smoke on top with the
win. Coast Guard finished 2nd but was DSQ for a mark room incident giving
Navy the 2. For Race 2, the breeze solidified and another four leg course
was set. KP led wire to wire with Navy coming second and Coast Guard 3rd.
With 5-7 knots of wind, a third four leg race was run, this time with Navy
coming out on top followed by KP in second and Coast Guard again in third.

Given an iffy wind forecast for Sunday, Jacobs opted to run a 4th race, this
time selecting a 3 leg course. St. Mary's hit the left up the first beat
and struck pay dirt with both shift and velocity and extended on each
subsequent leg to win the race. KP got off the line well and also protected
the left to round in second where they stayed to the finish. Maine Maritime
found their stride and finished the day with a podium position in third.
Mass Maritime came back from an OCS to grab a 5th while Navy struggled and
carded a 6th.
