Port of LA Harbor Cup Cal Maritime Invitational
San Pedro, CA
Mar 9-11, 2012

The fifth running of the Port of LA Harbor Cup welcomed ten teams who ventured
out into the Pacific ocean in 8-12 knots of breeze, warm & sunny skies and 1-2
foot waves. After a morning of practice and several practice starts the fleet
started the first of two races. First timers at the event, University of
Michigan were first to the windward mark but host Cal Maritime passed them on
the downwind and led the rest of the race. CSU Channel Islands passed Michigan
as well to take second. Michigan finished third. The second race started in
12-15 knots of breeze with an increasing wind chop. Several team overstood the
windward mark and struggled to turn the corner. CSU Channel Islands called the
layline as did SUNY Maritime to take the lead. USC sailed well to finish 3rd.
