Conditions for Day 1 of the Mendelblatt Team Race regatta hosted by USF St.
Petersburg and Eckerd College were sunny and warm with light but manageable
winds. Sailing was conducted inside Bayboro Harbor. Winds were east at 4-7
knots for the majority of the day, with the exception of a shift to the
northeast in the early afternoon, which then swung back to east by the end
of racing at 4:30 pm.
A slight delay ensued as sailors were treated to a docking of the 71.6
meter long megayacht "Utopia", in town for the Honda Grand Prix event.
Two full rotations were completed, 42 races, using 18 USF FJ's. Four
protests were heard, resulting in one DSQ.
Conditions for Day 2 mirrored those of Day 1. The third full round robin
was completed, protests were heard, and then the Final Four advanced to a
single round robin series. Congratulations to USF for winning. Particular
mention should be made of the generally excellent sportsmanship displayed
by all sailors and coaches. Racing was tighter than the final records
indicate, with a potential sail-off averted when NY Maritime withdrew from
the final race, averting a long series of possible protests and a
tie-breaking sail-off for first.

hearing the protests, and special thanks to ICSA rep Russ O'Reilly for
assisting with team racing protocol questions.
