Captain Hurst Bowl
Dartmouth College
Oct 13-14

Captain Bill Hurst was the coach at Dartmouth for 26 years, from 1968-1993.
A class of 1943 graduate of the Naval Academy, where he was captain of the
sailing team, Captain Hurst helped establish competitive sailing at
Dartmouth and had a lasting impact on the many, many athletes he interacted
with during those 26 years. Mrs. Christina Hurst was at the competitors
meeting this morning, with daughter Nancy, and her famous baked goods, and
she stayed to watch the sailing for much of the morning.

The competitors had a testy northwesterly that kept showing more west than
any of us would have liked. Blustery morning conditions faded to a true
shifty westerly by the last race of the day. Through 6A and 6B, BC enjoys
a tight lead over the Hawks and Statesmen. Thanks to Ed Jude Glackin 11,
Sam Williams 12, and Bernie Roesler 12, for meting out justice, including
several DSQs. More protests from today will be heard tomorrow morning.
