It was a long day in Annapolis for the first day of the 2013 Truxtun Umsted Regatta. Fortunately, the rainy forecast for the day proved incorrect, but unfortunately so did the wind forecast for 5-10 all day. PRO Kyle Assad and his team of Midshipmen brought the fleet out into the river on three different occasions throughout the day, starting and abandoning four races as the wind never filled in for long enough to get anything done. After a long day of waiting, the volunteers of the Naval Academy Sailing Squadron fired up the grill and treated the competitors to a complimentary cookout, which lifted spirits and also brought the breeze, which began to fill at 5 PM from the north. The Race Committee quickly set a trapezoid course in Annapolis Harbor and four races were completed per division before the sun set. Five protests and redress requests were filed that will be heard beginning at 0845 tomorrow.
