Dear Folks:
We sincerely apologize for not publicizing the file format changes in
advance. The main changes to file structures are listed below. The raster
data file format (.rst) is identical to earlier versions (.img) (except a
new 24-bit structure is also supported). For all documentation files
(raster, vector, values), new fields were added, mainly to give more
control over display. The File Structures section of the Help System gives
more detailed information.
For those of you without access to Idrisi32 and its Help System, we will be
posting file structure information on the Technical Support section of our
website within a couple of days.
As a precautionary measure, we decided to not delete the original files
when the Idrisi Conversion Tools module runs. We may reconsider this if it
poses a significant problem to users.
It will not be feasible for us to add support for the older formats in
Idrisi32.
Raster Image Files:
filename extensions changed from .IMG/.DOC to .RST/.RDC
new fields for version, display max, and display min added to the
documentation file
new data types RGB8 and RGB24 are now supported (the latter cannot be
converted to earlier versions)
Vector Files:
filename extensions changed from .VEC/.DVC to .VCT/.VDC
binary file structure changed significantly to allow for feature query with
the cursor
new fields for version, display max and display min added to the
documentation file
legend information is now carried in the vector documentation file
Note that there is also a new vector export format, .VXP. This is an ascii
file that may be manipulated in any text editor. The module CONVERT will
convert between .VXP and the binary .VCT/.VDC structure.
Attribute Values Files:
filename extensions changed from .VAL/.VDC to .AVL/.ADC
new fields for version, display max, and display min added to the
documentation file
Macro Files:
parameters after the "x" are separated by asterisks (*) rather than spaces
to allow for filenames that have spaces
Again, we apologize for not getting this information to you sooner. As
always, we welcome your input.
Sincerely,
Clark Labs
