Hi Ishan,
I think many people, including myself, could give slightly more on-target
answers if you can share a bit about your background--

(a) what kind of things you have tried ?
(b) what's your experience-level/age/qualifications ?
(c) what distros of linux/technologies you use on a day-to-day basis ?
(d) what technologies/distros/tools you have a passing familiarity with ?
(e) What is your position/role -- are you a concerned teacher ? Are you a
lab incharge / technician ? Are you a Phd Scholar ? Are you a student ?
(f) to what extent is this voluntary ? and to what extent is this effort of
yours based on the responsibilities included in your role ?

you dont have to answer all of the above- but any information on the above
lines would help this group share targetted and relevant and useful
information with you.

+1 from me on Gajendra's suggestion- Good One Man... though ofcourse, the
answer points to a approach/best practice-- rather than a answer "elaborate
on various technologies that are used in a academic environment"..

Nalin
