The EJ&E and IHB have a non interlocked crossing at the south end ot the J's
and IHB's parallel Whiting yards. They also have a crossing in East Chicago
between Inland Steel and the Whiting yards. The IHB breaks away from the J
trackage rights just west of here and loops over and crosses the J here.

The South Shore and NS (NKP) had a crossing near the west end of Shops Yard
in Michigan City too. It just west of the Shops Station. Don't know if NS
comes up this far anymore on the branch. CSS and NS used to interchange coal
trains for Bethlehem Steel, power and all here in the 80's. Also some other
freight business as well.

In the case of all the above locations, they were protected with stop signs
and you stopped and ascertained the route was clear and proceeded. If it
wasn't, you waited for the cross traffic to clear and then went.

In Decatur, the CNIC and NS (former IT) have a non interlocked crossing
protected with a gate. It is left lined as last used. It is on the industry
line that heads towards ADM and Staley referred to as "out in the country."
