I can always get... but unregistered Ilugs cannot be sponsored even if others
want to.

I've been waiting quietly for this thread to die down. But, no! that's like
asking for too much!

Some facts :

1) Linux-India participation at IT.COM in the years 1998, 1999 and 2000
happened despite of there being no LI or BLUG in "Official" existence.

2) ILUG-CAL.ORG web-site and mailing lists sponsored for last 9 years by
Russell McOrmand

3) ILUG-CAL.ORG domain name sponsored for about 10 years by Arup Kanjilal.

4) Linux-Interact '99 (ILUG-Cal's first event in Sep'99) - Venue sponsored (St.
Xavier's College), equipment sponsored, promotion sponsored, transport
sponsored (Astralsys)

5) ILUG-Cal's COMPASS 2003 hugely successful presence happened inspite of the
fact that it wasn't registered. We got the following sponsored - stall costing
about Rs. 1.8 Lakhs; plus 15 computers (each with 512MB of RAM, which in
Feb/Mar 2003 was HUGE), 10/100 switched network, Internet access, temporary
stall phone line etc.

6) ILUG-Cal.ORG presence in Bookfair 2005 - Sponsored by AamarPC/Xenitis group

7) ILUG-CAL.INFO sponsored by P.K. Sharma, Hosting sponsored by DPS Technologies

8) Ankur Bangla - an unregistered, volunteer-based virtual organisation, is
part of the Expert Group set up by the Govt. of West Bengal, for looking into
Bangla Language computing.

Do I really need to go on....????
