Dear Nisandh, Till this day, I haven't once used command line to mount an NTFS external drive in my arch linux machine. I have a WD external hard disk, which is password protected in windows, but opens up even without asking any password in my arch machine. I had also opened several other external hard disks in this system, most of which were only used before with windows. So your problem may not be that generic. Try changing distros man, or at least, your DE. Think beyond Ubuntu.
