Installing gnome is certainly a solution. But if you are just concerned
about privacy issue when using dash search, just disable that by visiting
Security & Privacy from dash and switching that off in Search tab. I also
recommend turning off ""Record files and application usage".

If you still want to proceed using gnome, which I recommend, see this.
